Hey, Cool!
It has been a whirlwind of a month here in the art room! Since starting two weeks into the year, we've jumped right in to preparing artwork for the upcoming International Festival (November 18!). Here is a brief overview of what we've been working on: In 5th grade we've been studying Mexican Oaxacan Alebrijes sculptures. We've been creating our own sculptures out of paper and plaster: We've looked at some pretty crazy ones from Mexico, like this one! The 4th graders have been looking at the beautiful painted houses of the Ndebele people in South Africa. We've been inspired by the bright geometric patterns and have painted our own designs. The creative 3rd graders have been looking at the Vietnamese art of Hòn Non Bộ, which is the art of making miniature landscapes that represent the actual landscape of Vietnam, such as this one: . We have been making ours using paintings and pop-out materials for a shadow box effect. In 2nd grade, we have just completed our "Book About Art", with all of the elements of art. We looked at examples of all of the elements: Color, Shape, Texture, Line, Value and Space. We are now starting our study of Irish illuminated letters, like this one! In 1st grade, we have just completed our "Book About Art", with all of the elements of art. We looked at examples of all of the elements: Color, Shape, Texture, Line, Value and Space. We are getting ready to study the art of the Kuna people in Colombia and make colorful Molas, like this one!
